Writers on the Record with Victoria Lautman: Anne Lamott

By Jocelyn Geboy in Arts & Entertainment on Mar 21, 2007 3:51PM

We can't believe we never heard about this before, but it took us years to hear about this, so we definitely miss things. There is a free monthly interview series called Writers on the Record with Victoria Lautman. It's a live interview hosted by Victoria Lautman at the Lookingglass Theatre and takes place Sundays at noon.

2007_03victorialautman.jpgThe series was started by Lautman in September of 2004, and it is co-sponsored by Chicago Magazine and 98.7 WFMT radio. Each month, Lautman features the author in a column in Chicago Magazine in addition to interviewing them at an audience-attended event. The events are free, but reservations must be made in advance by calling a special telephone line, 312-832-6789.

The series has featured authors such as Augusten Burroughs, Louise Erdrich, Frank McCourt, Martin Amis and Alice Hoffman. Often the spots fill up weeks before the actual event, so if you can't get in to the actual live interview at the theater space, you can listen to the live broadcast on WFMT (98.7 FM). Chicagoist was excited to find out about this series, and we list it as one of the many wonderful free things available to us in this great city of ours — things we all too often take for granted while we are busy debating an Olympic bid.

2007_03annelamott.jpgThis month's author is no exception. The reservation line was closed several weeks before this coming Sunday. Program host Victoria Lautman will sit down with author Anne Lamott, who has written autobiographical works, novels and works about the subject of writing itself. She is known to be a pro-choice, pro-gay Christian who knows how to drop the f-bomb (a quality we admire). Frankly, Chicagoist just loves her to death. We have some of the same friends. We're very much looking forward to hearing what she has to say.

There is an opportunity to get on a waiting list if people don't show up — it's suggested you get to the theater early. We'll be there with bells on.
