Daley Gets All Diverse on Our Ass

While Congress wallows in its own self-loathing, the City that Works keeps plugging along.

Mayor Daley announced yesterday that Miguel Del Valle would be replacing convicted former City Clerk James Laski. Del Valle, an Illinois State Senator since the late 1980's, has served a mostly Latino district on the Northwest Side of the city.

Altogether this is a smart move by Da Mare, as it puts him in good graces with independents in the city, and the sometimes useful "Lakefront Liberals". Although he has friends in the Hispanic Democratic Organization, Del Valle also has a reputation for being able to work and make peace with people from different political factions. What's more is that this puts Daley on a "rainbow" ticket for the Feburary mayoral election. This too, will be handy, considering that 100% of Daley's official opposition is black. Plus putting a Latino with a sort of independent reputation on his ticket adds credibility at a time when scandal and corruption are very much on the minds of voters.
