People are constantly emailling us asking "Hey, Chicagoist, I'm going to be in town next week. What's a good place to grab a drink and some grub?" Or "Hey, Chicagoist, I've got an hour to kill between sessions at my conference next week. Can you tell me something I could do in the Loop?" Lately these emails have 2006_06_vv_tour_guide.jpgbeen more like "Hey, Chicagoist, I'm going to be in town for Intonation/Pitchfork/Lolla. Can you give me some tips about where to drink/eat/shop/take in the sights?"

So we rounded up the troops, we got submissions from everyone on staff about their favorite places to hang out in their free time, and now we present to you: Act Like You've Been Here Before: The Chicagoist Guide To Chicago. This guide is a low-tech, nitty gritty, just the facts, ma'am handbook that details facts on Chicagoist, Chicago's history, our politics, transportation systems, places to eat, where to get drinks, suggestions for shopping, and where to take in culture. Basically everything you need to know if you're visiting the city.

So if you're coming in town for the fest this weekend, download it. Or if your friends are coming in, download it. Or if you've just got people visiting that need to know what to do while you're at work, go get it here! It's a 148k PDF that is 11 pages long, because 10 is just too easy. You can print it off any black and white printer, and it travels easily no matter what bag you're carrying, or if you're carrying none at all!

Just a note, we're already working on version #2 of the guide, so watch for updates!
