For Those About to Interior Decorate, Chicagoist Salutes You

By Scott Smith in Arts & Entertainment on May 15, 2006 5:38PM

You’re not likely to find anyone in the Chicagoist Music Department watching “American Idol.” Maybe if you paid us. (And gave us a big box of Cheez-Its. We love those damn things).

But that doesn’t stop us from secretly wishing we had the God/Clive Davis-like powers to determine someone’s career trajectory. So perhaps that’s why we’ve spent way too much time this morning at the Walter E. Smithe website, as voting closes today on its search for the Walter E. Smithe Chicago Superstar.*

2006_05_smithe.jpgTen finalists have their audition videos up on the site and you can vote on your favorite there. It’s incredibly bizarre to watch ten people pour their hearts and souls into jingles for “custom furniture,” but there you go. Most of the finalists are local musicians. We’re putting our money on Zechariah McGee, despite the—ahem—obvious charms of Nicole Garza.

Speaking of voting, the field at Metromix's Rock 'n' Vote has been narrowed to four. We don’t have a dog in this race now, since our beloved Reptoids got knocked out.

Now if only we could have some say in Fall Out Boy’s popularity.

* Chicagoist apologizes in advance for any role we have in getting that song stuck in your head for the rest of the day
