  • Former state Senator Bob Madigan died on Thursday at the age of 63. He served in the state Senate from 1987 to 2001.
  • The Sun-Times and WMAQ/NBC5 are like BFF now. They're gonna share information and resources. Sun-Times stories will be previewed on NBC while NBC TV station promos will appear daily in the Sun-Times.
  • Under legislation approved on Thursday, 4 of the state's 9 riverboats (the ones that make more than $200 million/year) will have to share 3% of their profits with horse racing tracks, riders and breeders.
  • Mark Prior's out a bunch of money for breaching a contract with Just Ducky, a retail sports schwag store. Prior was to sign his famous name for 300 autographs and on 1,000 model stadiums. He signed less than 200 autographs and no model stadiums. Verdict: Prior pays Just Ducky $30,000+.
  • This weekend head over to UIC to see the Skyspace Observatory at Earl L. Neal Plaza on South Campus for a "celestial vaulting" view. You can look at the sky without a horizon line. And it's open 24 hours.
  • Pace says they're going broke by letting people use the CTA 7-day passes.
