Bank Robberies at a 10-Year High

2005_11_robber.jpgA bank robbery on the Far Northwest Side has brought the number of holdups in the Chicago metro area to 195 for the year, tying the 1995 record for bank robberies in a year. Just one more robbery in the month of December will make this a record year. Think we can do it?

The FBI says "You Can Dooo It" and points out that at the pace that robberies occurred this year we're likely to set the record. This year there was a holdup every 1 1/2 days. Doesn't that seem crazy? So like every other day someone's walking into a bank and saying "Gimme all your money." Wow.

Last year there were 160 bank robberies in Chicagoland. The FBI isn't clear why bank robberies have spiked this year.
