Humanity Shines as Bomb Threat Closes Brown Line

By Andrew Peerless in News on Jul 11, 2005 2:14PM

2005_7_kimball.jpgBelieve it or not, some people actually seem to get off on tragedies such as last week's London transit bombings. While the rest of us try to go about our day-to-day lives, mourning with our English counterparts and nervously eyeing bag-toting passengers near us on the L, a select few bastards out there use these unfortunate events as an opportunity to spread even more fear. What fun!

Early yesterday morning, authorities shut down the CTA Brown Line after a telephoned threat announced the imminent explosion of the Kimball terminal. CTA and CPD folks immediately evacuated the station, shuttling waiting passengers to the nearby Western Avenue stop, and later conducted a search that yielded no evidence of any explosives. CTA President Frank Kruesi (usually the one behind CTA-related headaches) praised the quick reaction of the 911 call center and the Police Department, and acknowledged that a hoax is better "than the alternative." For once, Chicagoist agrees with ol' Frankie.

The Chicagoist family is not a violent group of people. However, situations like this make us very, very angry in a very big way... and not entirely opposed to the idea of calling up some of our boys, getting some tweezers and a blow torch and... well, getting you know what on the perpetrator(s) of this hoax... Who's in?
