Free Movie Friday

By Scott Smith in Arts & Entertainment on Mar 25, 2005 4:24PM

Actually, this is more like Free Movie Monday and Free Movie Wednesday but that title just sounds so much catchier.

2005_03_25_ddl.JPGChicagoist has the hook-up (not that kind of hook-up but if you come to our Happy Hour tonight who knows?) on some free movie screenings for you next week.

Monday night at 600 N. Michigan is the Screen IFC sneak preview of The Ballad of Jack and Rose. Daniel Day-Lewis stars as Jack, an idealistic father who shuns the toxic world around him until his fatal illness and his only daughter's maturity force him to face up to his place in it. This is the third feature directed by Day-Lewis's wife Rebecca Miller. The screening starts at 7:30 PM on 2005_03_25_05_kfp.jpgMonday night but if you've been to these freebies before you know you'll have to get there at least an hour early to line up as seating is not guaranteed. Click here to download a PDF file that will serve as your ticket for two.

If death and coming-of-age stories arent your thing then perhaps you'd prefer some kung fu fighting? From Stephen Chow, the director of Shaolin Soccer, comes yet another porting of a Hong Kong film:Kung Fu Hustle (nee Gong Fu). It's a tale of 1930s China that pits gangsters against members of a housing project who defend their turf with fist and feet of fury. Roger Ebert calls it a film where "Jackie Chan and Buster Keaton meet Quentin Tarantino and Bugs Bunny." The screening is Wednesday april 30th at 7:30 PM. Click here to receive two free tickets while supplies last (you'll get a confirmation e-mail with location details).

Remember: show up early and seating is not guaranteed.
