Out at Chicago Historical Society

outatchs.jpgTomorrow night, the Chicago Historical Society kicks off their "Out at CHS" lecture series with a look at how modern historians interpret same-sex relationships in the 19th Century. Scholars from area universities will discuss the lives of Jane Addams, Walt Whitman, and Charlotte Cushman through the modern perspective.

Future lectures include "When the Magnificent Mile Was Called Fairytown and Bronzeville Was Lavender" in April and "The Celluloid Closet: LGBT in Film" in June.

Chicagoist is particularly interested in hearing about the early Chicago gayborhoods of Fairytown and Bronzeville and wonders if CHS will give lectures 70 years from now about "When North Halsted Was Called Boystown."

Tickets are $10 or $25 for all three lectures. Full event details are available on CHS's website.
