2004_07_movies_stooges.bmp Chicagoist has always marveled at how much The Three Stooges appeal to guys. We guess there’s just something about seeing a fellow dude get poked in the eye or whacked across the face with a 2x4 that's inherently hilarious. Well, guys, here's your chance to see all those slapstick shenanigans on the big screen. This week, the Gene Siskel Film Center is playing The Three Stooges 70th Annivoisary Blowout, a collection of seven of their two-reelers. (That's almost two-and-a-half hours of Stoogey goodness!)

The quality of most of the trio's career output is spotty, but these short films feature some of their best and funniest work, working with talents like Buster Keaton collaborator Clyde Bruckman. Included on the program are Men in Black (unfortunately, sans Tommy Lee Jones… now that would be something!) and You Nazty Spy (ho-ho!), the Stooges own little Hitler farce. It's no Great Dictator, to be sure, but it can definitely make you smile. As any guy could tell you. Check out the Reader's complete review here.
