For a while it seemed like Pegboy only played one show every two years, but recently the band has made a welcome return to regular appearances, at least in our area. We think it's fair to say they're the epitome of Chicago punk rock, especially since John Haggerty's buzz-saw guitars created the template from which a million other bands took their cues. Pegboy plays tomorrow, August 9, at The Bottom Lounge, 1375 W Lake, 8......

We told you earlier about the big brawl down in Peoria last night. And now there's video. It look like it's been filmed by the kids from Cloverfield, so watch at your own risk if you get motion sickness. In a related note, President Bush is visiting Peoria today, and being a former baseball owner, we're wondering if he'll weigh in on the mess.......

Often there is a thin line between a conceit being inspired or shtick. In the case of Chicago's Lasers And Fast And Shit that conceit is that they build much of their music gear and light show from scratch, often incorporating common household objects or toys. And in their hands, this conceit proves inspired when included in the context of their music and live presentation. In simple terms, Lasers And Fast And Shit are an......

Our ears are still ringing and our eyes are still bleeding* from the super-packed, line around the block and down the alley Crystal Castles show last night. How did we get here? Well, we were looking for Kenny Loggins video, since we just can't get enough of the guy this week. So that led us down the path Footloose less traveled, where we were reminded just how much we secretly enjoyed the Jim Steinman-powered bombast of Bonnie Tyler's "Holding Out For A Hero. So there you go. Also, while you're on the couch nursing that hangover this Sunday after partying like a......

This is seriously just so, erm, weird isn't even close to an appropriate term. We think "Bruce" and "Cyndi" totally nail it. On a side note, watching this made us run to the source material for better comparison, and we had totally forgotten that Steven Perry sang right after Kenny Loggins in the original. How fitting. Thanks to Sean for the tip!......

According to the media the Cubs are in uncharted waters. They have the best record in the majors and talk about breaking a century of futility with a championship is heating up, if a bit premature. Which is why we always need to remind folks of 1969, that this is June, and the June swoon can still happen (albeit unlikely). We found this Leo Durocher story, told by Vince Lloyd, on You Tube about......

We are obviously stoked that Radiohead is coming into town to play Lollapalooza later this summer. To warm up for the big event we'll be poring over all their previous albums so we can knowingly drop all sorts of references and tidbits to our dates during the band's set. But if you don't already own all their albums, you can get a quick lesson through the 2-disc compilation that come out tomorrow containing much of......

Chicagoist thought players from New York would have some pretty thick skin, but apparently that's not the case for Mets relief pitcher Joe Smith. While shagging balls during batting practice prior to a game earlier this week, the bleacher bums' taunts -- already in drunken top form and it's only April -- got to him enough that he actually responded. And did so by telling the fans that "[they] ain't sh!t!" and rubbing in......
