On Thursday night, scruffy troubadour and Scarlett Johansson collaborator Pete Yorn played a free show at the W Hotel downtown -- and Eyewitness Chicagoist was on the scene. Taking the stage at 9 p.m., Yorn and his band (Peter, Yorn and John?) played a mostly banter-free, one-hour set, occasionally smiling or joking around with one of the many starry-eyed audience-ladies. In addition to playing "Strange Condition" (which provoked a room-wide singalong), the Yorns performed "Paradise Cove" and other songs off of Back and Fourth, Yorn's newest record, and also did a cover of "Bizarre Love Triangle." Overall, it was a strong performance by Yorn and his band, who have been touring all summer.

A thousand might be a little facetious, but between a strong roster of bands playing Ribfest and piles of amazing shows gracing our city's venues this weekend, your options are vast. Here is the weekly rundown of the upcoming shows on sale in the days ahead, and holy crap are there some good ones this week.
