Chicagoist's "Beer of the Week:" Two Brothers Avalon Ale

Our nose was assaulted by the scent of apples and spices from the moment we opened a bottle of Two Brothers Avalon. It was the olfactory equivalent to hearing Christmas carols in October, but much more pleasing. Avalon is another in Two Brothers' "Artisan Bottling" series — Bonfire Dunkle Weiss is part of that series. get past the nose of this beer and you'll immediately pick up a pretty serious hop flavor to Avalon. Most beers or ales brewed with apple cider or must err on the side of malt. Since there is a fair amount of spices in Avalon, the hops work to complement that aspect of the taste profile.

We're assuming he'll rehash all the Oprah-centric senatorial questions, as well as repeating his talking points about Impeachment Proceeding Rule 8b and how unfair all this is to him. Since it's Larry King, we're also going to assume there will be questions like "What's it like being governor" and "Gee, you've got a goofy last name" and "So, why are you here again?"

Kuma's Plan To Have Lines Out the Door At Two Locations

After turning down offers to venture out to Vegas, Kuma's Corner owner Mike Cain told Time Out Chicago that he does have expansion on the brain. In addition to bringing Kuma's winning blend of minor chord metal and gourmet burgers to other working class towns, Cain is planning a second Kuma's location specializing in Southern cuisine.

You asked for a shot of the Blago Burger at Kuma's Corner, and the fine folks at Kuma's delivered.

Kuma's Corner is jumping on the Blagojevich train, as if you needed another reason to head to Kuma's this month. Their January special is the "#@(*&%^ Blagojevich." This gubernatorial-inspired monstrosity is made with a 10 oz. hamburger patty, thick sliced bologna and yellow mustard between two grilled cheese sandwiches (made with American cheese and wonder bread). When the burger comes out, one of the sandwiches has a large dollar sign written in mustard. The cost of this beast: $10, but Kuma's is "negotiable."
