Mado, Bluebird, Webster's Wine Bar Team Up for Sunday Dinner

Looks like the Publican/New Holland beer dinner isn't the only must-eat dinner in town Sunday. Rob and Allie Levitt of mado are putting together a five-course dinner of their own featuring wood-roasted pig’s head with spicy greens and marinated chickpeas, spit-roasted leg of mutton and smoked trout with apricots, chilies and polenta abbrustolita. The dinner starts Sunday at 6 p.m.

DeRo and Kot Become Foodies For One Night

We know that Sound Opinions hosts Jim Derogatis and Greg Kot have some staunch viewpoints on popular music. But how would they fare if they veered out of their comfort zone? Say, at a dinner?

Bonsoiree Chef Tapped for Beard Dinner

Shin Thompson has taken Bonsoirée from an underground dinner club to one of the better BYOB joints in town with his fusion of French and Japanese cuisines and detailed-yet-affordable tasting menus.

Double "Do This": Beer Edition

One person who probably loves beer more than us is Bob Skilnik. If you haven't read his musings on beer, you're missing a real treat and may actually learn something. Skilnik delves deep into the history of beer, with a particular emphasis on Chicago's history with the suds. Example: did you know that the recipe for Miller Lite was purchased by Miller from Meister Brau?

Do This: Share Our Strength Beer Dinner at Hot Chocolate

Break out your party hats, on Monday, February 23, Hot Chocolate is celebrating its 4th birthday by hosting a ridiculous five course dinner complete with appropriately paired craft beers. Even better, ticket sales will benefit Share Our Strength, a national non-profit working to end childhood hunger.

Soup Kitchen Wednesdays At Hideout This Winter

Starting this Wednesday and running through April Fool's Day, Hideout will be transformed into a soup line with a weekly dinner featuring three soups fashioned by Hideout staff, regulars, local chefs and maybe even a food writer/blogger or three.

When we were younger and considered dining out on New Year's Eve a rite of passage, we usually waited until the last moment to secure reservations somewhere, and paid through the nose as a result. Then we learned to cook and wound up saving a lot of money. With only a couple days left until the big night, we know that more than a few of you share similar habits of procrastination.

There are a lot of fixed price dinners happening around town these days, but Bella Bacinos (75 E. Wacker Dr., 312-263-2350) is not one of the places we would immediately associate with hosting one, let alone a beer dinner.

We can certainly be accused of overhyping the Publican in recent weeks, but this dinner they're having tomorrow evening bears a mention if only for the beer company whose brews they're featuring.

Flossmoor Station Brewpub and Restaurant has this nice little luau-themed brewmaster dinner planned for next Tuesday at 6 p.m. The guest of honor for the event will be Wil Turner, the extraordinarily talented brewmaster for Goose Island's Clybourn brewpub. Andrew Mason, Flossmoor Station's head brewer, said in an e-mail that Turner will be bringing along Goose Island's 20th Anniversary Celebration ale and a Belgian black ale called "Noire."

Before last week it had been a while since we caught up with local underground chef Efrain Cuevas, so we RSVP'd to his latest dinner, which was to be held on the rooftop of a grocery store on the north side. The location turned out to be fortuitous as Cuevas was able to buy most of the spices, herbs and vegetables for the dinner at the store.

Cancel your dinner plans boys and girls, cuz Dunkin' Donuts is throwing away their microwaves and taking back the night. In an effort to increase costumer satisfaction and continue their Dunkin' Manifest Destiny, the food chain known for their delicious, morning baked books is targeting afternoon and evening crowds with all new flatbread sandwiches and pizzas heated in convection ovens rather than microwaves.
