More Gorgeous

The More Gorgeous you hear on their new album Mortgages is a very different beast than the band that put out their 2013 debut, Escape from Terror Beach.

That album featured a certain refinery in the songwriting, with the band shooting for a more mainstream sound, geared towards modern radio. The band has slimmed down from a quartet to a trio, and while doing so they've also stripped the frippery from the delivery.

Mortgages is s a grimy, angry-sounding album, and sees the band pulling more of their sound from the post-punk Chicago of the late '80s and early '90s. They've traded in their keyboards and stadium choruses for gnarly guitars and snarling vocals. It seems fitting that to celebrate the release of Mortgages the band is playing in the suitably punk rock environs of Liar's Club this Friday. But, for you, we have a sneak peak with an exclusive stream of the new album below. Give it a spin, and hear a band deep into its own reinvention.

More Gorgeous will play an album release show for Mortgages this Friday, Aug. 7, at Liar's Club, 1665 W. Fullerton, 10 p.m., FREE, 21+
