Here’s one for your top five list this week: The "Sound Opinions at the Movies" series will screen High Fidelity at the Music Box Theater (3733 N. Southport Ave.) this Thurs., Oct. 24, at 7:30 p.m.

The Chicago-focused film, hosted for Chicago Public Media by Greg Kot and Jim DeRogatis, is a natural fit for the series. John Cusack’s sad-sack record store owner examines the soundtrack of his failed relationships against a backdrop of familiar locales, including Double Door, the Biograph Theater, and the Rainbo Club.

According to Kot, High Fidelity is a film for, “Anybody who has made or been inspired by a mix tape, walked into an indie record store on a whim and walked out with a life-changing record, or associated specific songs with life-changing moments.”

If you haven’t finalized your list of top albums, local record stores Laurie’s Planet of Sound, Dusty Groove, and Dave’s Records will be curate listening stations to recommend some of their own. Grab your favorite music snob and debate their rankings while watching Cusack visit the Music Box from inside the Music Box.

Tickets are $10 ($9 for WBEZ members) online or $12 at the door.
